Resurrection is Accredited by HFAP - not the leading hospital accreditation agency, JCAHO.
None of the Resurrection hospitals are accredited by the premier hospital accreditation organization-- the Joint Commission (JCAHO). Instead they joined the less transparent American Osteopathic Association's Health Care Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). Outside of Resurrection, only 7% of accredited hospitals in Illinois are accredited by HFAP.26

Besides the Resurrection Health Care hospitals, only 13 hospitals in Illinois are solely accredited by the AOA's HFAP program, whereas the Joint Commission accredits 185 hospitals in Illinois including: the Advocate Hospitals, Alexian Brothers Hospitals, Northwestern Hospital, Rush Hospitals and University of Chicago Hospitals, just to name a few.27

The Joint Commission requires the hospitals they accredit to measure their performance on patient safety measures and other performance indicators. The Joint Commission publishes hospitals' performance results on their website. Hospitals that are not accredited by the Joint Commission do not have their performance measured by the Joint Commission of the results made available to the public.28
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is the nation's lead Federal agency for research on health care quality and patient safety. AHRQ recommends that patients choose hospitals that are accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO).29
