  • On a government survey of patient satisfaction, Saint Joseph scored below the national average on 80% of the survey questions.121
  • More than one-third of Saint Joseph patients reported that their room and bathroom were not always clean.122
  • Forty-five percent of Saint Joseph patients surveyed reported that they did not always receive help as soon as they wanted it- a sign of potentially hazardous short staffing.123

Saint Joseph Hospital Compared Poorly to Similar Hospitals on Key Quality Indicators
  • The 2008 Blue Star Hospital Report awarded hospitals up to ten possible stars based on their performance compared to their peer group in ten areas. One-third of the ranked Illinois hospitals received seven, eight or nine stars out of a possible ten. Saint Joseph Hospital only received five stars.125
  • Saint Joseph Hospital did not receive a star for overall satisfaction with hospital care because it failed to receive a score of at least 88 percent on a survey sent to BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois members.126
  • Saint Joseph Hospital did not receive a star for their performance on the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's inpatient quality indicators.  This measure is based on the hospital's mortality rates for specific medical conditions compared to their peers.127
Doctors Rated Saint Joseph Hospital Lower than Competitors for High-Risk Adult Surgery
  • A recent survey asked Chicago-area physicians to rate local hospitals on how well they treated patients for high-risk adult surgery.  Only 16% of doctors rated Saint Joseph Hospital as "very good" or "excellent" for high-risk adult surgery, whereas 42% of doctors gave top marks to Resurrection's competitors.128
